Sonic Mega Collection (GameCube) and Sonic Mega Collection Plus (PS2 and Xbox) all have Ristar as a bonus "hidden" game. Hence the SMC manual scans on site.

I do not know if this a sign of how special Ristar is but it is the hardest game to unlock before Comix Zone!
I actually unlocked The Ooze before Ristar on SMC+!

The method and number to play each game is the same on all three versions of SMC.
Simply go into a game and once the loading screen has gone and the game starts press the menu button (Z on GC, R1 on PS2, White button on Xbox).
To unlock Ristar play Sonic the hedgehog, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic and Knuckles, Sonic 3d and Sonic Spinball 20 times each.
And play Blue Sphere, Knuckles in Sonic 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Mean Bean Machine and Flicky 30 times each!
